 THE PROJECT 

 

HEALTH PROMOTION ACTIVITIES

a) Health Camps.

The Health promotion activities were started in the year 1998, with the assistance from Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India for RCH programme. Health services were imparted by organizing camps in the interior Blocks of Allahabad District – Urwa, Meja and Koraon in collaboration with Community Health Centre, Pragati Gramodhyog Evam Samjothan Samiti, and Allahabad Gram SwasthyaSewaSamiti. The various activities provided in the camp included:

  1. Health check-up and free medicines

  2. Awareness and screening for oral cancer, tuberculosis, diabetes, hypertension, RTI/STI and HIV/AIDS;

  3. Eye testing

  4. Health education through exhibition and group discussion;

  5. Referral.

 

b) Cataract Operation Camp.

Every year an eye camp is organized in villages of Koraon and Karchana blocks of Allahabad District in collaboration with NFRCB and Lions Club in the months of October and November. Patients are registered for cataract operation and referred to MD Eye Hospital, Allahabad for cataract operation. In addition patients receive treatment for various eye ailments and provided spectacles. All the services are imparted free.

 

c) Homeopathic Clinic.

A Homeopathic Clinic was inaugurated on 14th January 2006 at Ashok Nagar. All the medicines are provided free to the patients. A homoeopathic Doctor sits in the clinic 06 days a week and provides consultation. Patients from nearby slums - Newada, Prem Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Neewa and Mausaraaiyan visit the clinic and provided free medicines.

 

Adolescent girls group
d) Adolescent girls Health Education Programme.
Mejaand Koraon were organized. They have imparted education on personal hygiene, family life, common diseases and prevention.

 

The organization started AIDS awareness 
e) STD & HIV/AIDS Programme.
Counselingcentre in two Blocks of Allahabad – Meja and Koraon. AIDS Coordinator along with four villages based Health Workers imparted awareness to the local community on HIV/AIDS and STD. In addition screening campsfor STD AIDS organized in the villages. High risk cases were referred to ICTC for HIV testing. Awareness programmes on HIV/AIDS were organized in the schools, on the roadside for truck drivers, and Commercial sex workers. World AIDS Day was celebrated by organizing filmshow, exhibition, and talks in the community.

 

f) Tuberculosis awareness Programme
The partnership is made with Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI Card) in Tuberculosis Control programme in October 2014.

The objective of the programme: 

  • Empower communities to enhance their participation in TB services

  • Conduct need-based and gender-sensitive media campaigns

  • Advocate with policy-makers and parliamentarians

  • Facilitate the involvement of all healthcare providers to increase the reach of TB services and ensure rational use of diagnostics and drugs

  • Conduct research and training on ACSM, Public-Private Mix, MDR-TB, TB epidemiology, Programme Management and Operations Research

  • Support and complement RNTCP diagnostic and treatment services to increase access, especially in difficult and hard-to-reach areas

  • Strengthen linkages between TB and HIV services

  • Empower affected and vulnerable communities by facilitating platforms for TB care

Trans Yamuna Blocks Jasraand Mejaare adopted. Staff conduct Community Meeting, mid-media activities, Intensified Outreach Activities, sputum collection and referral to DMC. 

 

EMPOWERMENT & ECONOMIC REHABILITATION


1. Empowerment of Women

A Tailoring Centre was started in villages AsrawalKhurd and Varamar of Karchana Block in 1999. The Centre provide 30 days training in cutting and stitching of clothes. Women and adolescent girls of the villages are imparted training on tailoring skills.

 

​2. Education for Poor Rural Children with special needs. 

Children with special needs provided support from the Organization. This is done through the contribution collected from the members of the Society.


ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND SANITATION AWARENESS

​

  1. Tree plantation to observe van mahotsav in the month of August.

  2. Organic farming awareness programme for farmers; 

  3. Awareness programmes in schools and slum areas on sanitation;

  4. Lectures on rain water harvesting in various clubs, public /community gathering and schools.

  5. Preparation of literature on organic farming, sanitation and rain water harvesting etc.

Awareness program and demonstration of Vermi compost started in villages of Urwa block in Allahabad District. The farmers are being trained in Vermi composting, provided readymade vermi compost beds and high quality worms. This has led to extra income generation of the farmers and the cleanliness of villages. In urban areas the program is taken up for apartment buildings, marriage homes, hotels and individual house owners – the composting beds and worms are being provided in a very reasonable cost and the residents are trained to put their kitchen waste in it. The prepared manure can be used by themselves and the remaining manure and worms are sold to other societies/agencies.

​RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

​

​Summer Training in Social Work to students on outreach activities. Undergraduate Students from various Universities underwent training on migrants and HIV at Koraon Block.

​POPULATION RESOURCE & RESEARCH CENTRE

Population Resource & Research Centre (PRRC) is established under the aegis of Society for Integrated Development & Social Reconstruction, Allahabad in October 2010. Mr. RohitSripat Singh is the Hony. Director. The mission is to promote healthy behaviours among community through education, training and services, to advance knowledge through epidemiological; bio-statistical, clinical, ethical, medico-legal and social research in community health, and to develop public health professionals and evaluate health care programmes.

Activity.
PRRC has formed an Institutional Ethics Regulatory Board. The objective of this is to ensure quality and consistency in the review of health and biomedical research proposals and to follow the ICMR and National Ethical Guidelines for health, biomedical and social science research on human subjects. 

Following Research Projects are in progress:
1. Study on quality of life, cognition,
anxiety and depression among persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) with ART.

2. Risk factors for gallbladder cancer.
